The alumni office staff and the leadership of the Alumni Association wish you and yours the very best at this festive time of year.
The SJC Online Community is the place to connect with other alumni, get information about and register for college and alumni events, update your contact information, and more. This page is updated regularly with events and news. If you haven't registered for the online alumni community, register now or login. To safeguard the privacy of our alumni, user registration is required to access certain areas of the site. (Please note: If you were a member of the old alumni community that expired on December 31, 2013, you must create a new account here to be able to log in.)
Piraeus 2015St. John's College, in collaboration with the Alumni Association, is pleased to offer Piraeus 2015, a continuing education program for alumni. We invite your participation as we strive to awaken the curiosity that stirred Socrates to venture down to that port and led to journeys that shape our thoughts and lives today. Santa Fe sessions are January 16–18 and June 7–12. Annapolis sessions are May 28–21. Click here for more information and registration.
The first session in Santa Fe, January 16–18, is Kierkegaard’s Fear and Trembling with Richard McCombs and Raoni Padui:
Fear and Trembling is arguably Kierkegaard’s greatest and most exhilarating book, but also his most disturbing and most misunderstood book. It is often read as a treatise on faith, and readers agonize over its claim that faith may require appalling deeds such as Abraham’s setting out to sacrifice his son Isaac. Our project will be to read this book afresh, by investigating what its primary purpose may be, in the hope that by getting clear about this purpose we may find ourselves ready to handle—or at least face up to and adequately appreciate—its many difficulties, horrors and offenses. 2015 Croquet Design Contest Each year the Alumni Office uses an image for the Croquet Postcard to announce the annual St. John's College vs. U.S. Naval Academy Croquet Match—known as the "The Annapolis Cup"—to our alumni and the community. The image is then printed on hundreds of t-shirts worn by students, faculty, staff, and community members. We invite you to submit your original design/artwork to be considered. The guidelines are simple, but all entries must be received in the Alumni Office no later than midnight, Wednesday, January 14, 2015. For more information, including the entry form, click here.
Award NominationsThe Alumni Association presents three different awards annually, and we need your help identifying members of the SJC community who deserve to be recognized. If you know of someone who you would like to nominate to receive any of these awards (described in more detail below), please submit a nomination form (available for download here; contact the Alumni Office if you need it in a different format).
> Award of Merit: the Award of Merit recognizes an alum for distinguished and meritorious service to the United States, to their native state, to the college, or for outstanding achievement within a chosen field.

> Honorary Alumni: Honorary membership in the Alumni Association is given to any person for their significant role, service, or contribution in or to the life of the college, especially as regards alumni or students.
